Bill Clinton and the First Commandment

Just a few days ago former president Bill Clinton declared that had Yitzchak Rabin “not lost his life on that terrible November night, within three years we would have had a comprehensive agreement for peace in the Middle East.” Not only would there be peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians but peace would’ve reigned […]

Obama’s Inauguration and the Jewish State

Watching the inauguration of Barak Obama changed my life. I didn’t plan on watching it. In fact, I forgot all about it. I don’t have a TV but I happened to be by one the night of the inauguration. To me it just seemed like a good time to turn on the news and see […]

Drafted for Emergency Service in Gaza

Saturday night I got a call from a good friend of mine named Chaniel. He’s a successful banker, married with two beautiful children, funny and obsessive compulsive about being on time. He’s also my superior officer in the Israeli Defense Force Reserves.
I was sure he was calling to ask about Ari Abramowitz’s engagement and […]

Lovers of Peace, Haters of Israel

As would be expected during war time in Israel, people from around the world are now demonstrating, marching and protesting. Parashat Mikeitz- Yosef, Chosen to be a Light

When looking at the lives and decisions of the founding fathers of the nation of Israel we see a very clear pattern; one son is always chosen to lead the next generation. Isaac was chosen over Yishma’el. Jacob was given the blessing, not Esau. In these parashot is quite clear that Yosef (Joseph) was chosen […]

Parashat Vayeshev- How to Communicate with G-d

When Yosef is sold into slavery in this week’s Torah portion we’re told that the brothers saw a caravan of Ishmaelites transporting spices, balsam and lotus on their way to Egypt (Gen 37:25). Every word of the Torah is holy, calculated, and filled with the secrets of depths of the universe. Why does the Torah […]

Parashat Vayishlach- Are we Israel or are we Jacob?

In this week’s Torah portion, Jacob is given a new name- Israel. After a spiritual victory against an angel of G-d he is blessed with the name Israel, “…for you have struggled with the Divine and with man and have overcome.” (Gen 32:29) The name Israel is a true blessing; a name of strength, courage, […]
